written about business and history for many magazines, and he has a story
in Girls to the Rescue, Book#3. His story,  Keesha and the Rat, is original.
Bruce Lansky enjoys writing funny poems for children (the most popular
of which are in Poetry Party, Kids Pick the Funniest Poems, A Bad Case
of the Giggles, No More Homework! No More Tests!, and New Adventures
of Mother Goose), and he loves to perform in school assemblies and work-
shops. Before he started to write children s books, Lansky wrote humorous
books for parents and baby name books. He has two grown children and
currently lives with his computer near a beautiful lake in Minnesota. His
story,  Temper, Temper, is adapted from Italian folklore.
Liya Lev Oertel is originally from Minsk, Byelorussia, and she based
her story,  Rachel s Promise, on a true event that happened to her

grandmother. Liya graduated from Brown University with degrees in
psychology and visual arts. Currently, she works as an editor and lives in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, with her husband, Jens. Liya has a story published
in Newfangled Fairy Tales, Book #1. She loves mysteries, gardening,
dancing, and swimming.
Jason Sanford has just returned from Thailand, where he taught English
for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Before going overseas, Jason
worked as a lifeguard at Walt Disney World, a newspaper reporter in
Tuskegee, Alabama, and an archeologist for Auburn University. He
currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his wife, Jennifer, who was
also a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand. Jason s story,  Mai s Magic, is
based on his experiences with the little spicy peppers that grow in Thailand.
Janet Elaine Smith is a contributing editor to Heritage Magazine, has a
column in Red River Valley Memories magazine, and has had articles
published in many other magazines. Janet has also published three books:
Digging in the Dirt, Tickling Your Ancestral Funny Bone, and A Hallet
History. She teaches genealogy (tracing your family history) and is
president of the Minnkota Genealogical Society. Janet lives in Grand Forks,
North Dakota, with her husband, Ivan, and has three grown children. Janet
and her husband lived in Venezuela, South America, for several years. That
experience served as the inspiration for her story  The Apple Pie House.
Diane Sawyer s stories have appeared in newspapers, magazines, and
journals, including the St. Petersburg Times, Writers International Forum,
and Arts & Letters. She belongs to the Writers Round Table a three-
member critiquing group and attends writing workshops and seminars.
When not participating in tennis, swimming, and other fitness activities,
Diane enjoys spending time with her husband, Robert, and children. Her
story,  Skateboard Rosie and the Soda Kids, is original.
